As part of Trial 51, an experimental treatment for children with AIDS, Candace undergoes a three-hour infusion once a month to help reduce the chance of infection. Doug comforts his daughter while a nurse inserts the needle. The tears come as Candace sees the needle. "Mommy! Mommy! Mommy!" A child's panicked plea. But Nancy is two floors below in the AIDS-HIV clinic having her blood drawn for her monthly test. © Copyright 1996 Star Tribune. All rights reserved. |
