Doug's Dig: Women and children Were there voyageur women or children at Mo20? Probably not white women or children inside the fort. White families didn't come this far west with the fur trade. Doug Birk has found no toys, clothing or other items that would make him think otherwise. The fur traders probably chose the place for their fort because Indians, including women and children, camped nearby in the winter. Indians traded furs for beads and other goods. They moved frequently, locating near maple-sugar groves in the late winter, or the fish runs in the spring, and near hunting grounds. | |||||
