Clue 5: One big aspen
You'll never guess what is the biggest living thing at Little Elk. It's a grove of aspen (also called poplar) trees. All the trees in a group share a common root system. They send up shoots from their root systems to start new trees. When you look at a group of aspens, you're looking at one organism. Those in the same root system turn color at the same time in fall. | |||||
