Activity: Describe an artifact


Divide your class into groups of two to four students. Give each group a potato, paper, ruler and pencil. In 10 minutes, have each group write and draw a description of their potato, noting what makes it unique. Then put the potatoes into a container and mix them up. Using the descriptions, have each group find its potato.

Which descriptions -- possibilities include measurements, color, number of eyes, texture, markings, etc. -- were most useful? Least useful?
