Waimea Canyon, as seen from the Canyon Trail in Kokee State Park, Kauai. Layers of red, orange and gray stone each represent an eruption of lava. Millions of years of Pacific rain cut grooves in the stone, leaving a canyon 3,000 feet deep and 10 miles long.
