6:45 a.m., St. Paul: A dirty, tattered U.S. flag that had been flying in the exhaust of the Miss Kitty river boat bothered Tom Haines, 28, of St. Paul. "That just ain't right," he said as he took it down. The Miss Kitty was not his crew's regular boat. Last year his pilot called down the news of the New York attacks. "I thought we'd shore in and watch it on TV, but we had to keep working." Now the images don't seem real. "In New York it was real. Here it was just on TV."
