| 7:46 a.m., St. Paul: In the moment of silence after a bell tolled at 7:46, state Sen. Twyla Ring of North Branch closed her eyes with the hundreds of other people attending the memorial service at the State Capitol. She was watching TV at home a year ago at 7:46 a.m., when the first plane hit the World Trade Center. When she saw the images of the burning towers, "it was the first time I ever watched a program where my jaw dropped to my chest in shock," she said. "I always get a lump in my patriotic throat when I think of the event. I may be a flag waver, but I'm proud of it." |
