| Favorite photographs: The photos here offer glimpses of moments lived in 2004. What the images have in common is that they were not planned; they are a slice of time. As photographers leave the newspaper with assignments in hand, they usually carry expectations for themselves and from the paper. But there is no predicting the image and that, of course, is the magic. Many Star Tribune photographers say these images are not necessarily their best photos of the year, but they are ones that have touched them personally. June 27 | Davenport, Iowa "I came across Edgar while photographing a flotilla of paddleboats on the Mississippi River. ... He gave me the history, tonnage, the speed and captain's name of the paddleboat I was traveling on. Edgar is a retired accountant. I'm betting he made very few mistakes with the numbers over the years." | |
