![]() Today's NowCast Gustav going Gulfing As the remnants of Tropical Storm Fay continue to move across the Northeast, a new storm is brewing in the Caribbean. Even though Fay was only a tropical storm, it did cause a lot of damage across the southeastern corner of the nation, mainly from flooding rains. Some of the amazing rainfall totals from Fay include: 27.65” in Melbourne, Florida; 27.50” in Thomasville, Georgia; and 10.84” just outside of Harrisburg, North Carolina. Tropical Storm Gustav is going to move into the Gulf of Mexico over the next couple of days and could strengthen into a category three hurricane. It is too early to predict the exact path that the hurricane will take or how strong it will be by the time it makes landfall. The entire Gulf Coast should monitor this storm over the next few days, especially residents of New Orleans as we approach the third anniversary of Hurricane Katrina. Luckily, here in the State of Minnesota, we do not have to worry about hurricanes. The occasional tornado or blizzard, yes, but we are too landlocked to be directly affected by tropical storms. There is a slight chance of thundershowers for the first half of the day today, but by this evening drier air should help to break apart the cloud deck. Friday and Saturday will be nice and comfortable; however hot, humid air is going push into the state by the end of the holiday weekend. The high on Labor Day could come close to 90.
